About the North American Quilling Guild

(Submitted by Navanka Creations)

The North American Quilling Guild (NAQG) is a group of enthusiastic and dedicated quillers with one mission: to promote the lovely art of quilling and ensure that it is passed on to future generations.

The NAQG was officially formed in 2000, after several years of informal meetings. The guild is committed to providing support and assistance to help quillers discover and perfect their quilling technique and share information, patterns, and tips.

What I love the most about NAQG is that Membership is open to quillers of all levels and quilling enthusiasts worldwide. I have had the pleasure of looking at some of the most amazing quilling from experts in this art. It’s also heartening to see the encouragement every new member gets from other guild members. You can join the guild by filling out the form available on their website and submitting the annual fees. Online submission as well as submission by mail is available. More details are available at http://www.naqg.org.

NAQG publishes their newsletter, Quill America, four times a year, which includes pictures of quilling, tips, hints, patterns and a forum for the exchange of ideas. All the members are encouraged to submit articles and pictures of their artwork. I have received a few of them and always look forward to the next issue.

An annual conference is held at a different venue each year where quillers attend workshops and display their work. This year’s meeting was held in Newport Beach, California. I was not able to attend it personally but was highly impressed by photographs of the exhibits which were shared with all the members. Occasionally the members also organize quilling swaps too.

NAQG also offers Accreditation for quilling. More detail about this process is available at their website http://www.naqg.org.

All of us as artists draw inspiration from each other and NAQG provides a platform for all of us to share our work, our learnings and pitfalls and, in turn, inspire and get inspired. I have been a member only a little over a year but I am sure I will continue to be a member for a long time to come.

About Navanka Creations:

We are a team of sisters (Amrita and Nimisha) who share a passion for all things creative. We love to experiment with various mediums, though paper and clay are close to our hearts. Both of us are stay-at-home moms and our kids are our inspiration to make this world beautiful… one creation at a time. We discovered quilling a couple of years back and have been in love with it ever since. It is amazing how strips of paper can be used to make such beautiful things.

We have been making unique gift items for family and friends for various occasions. Encouragement and appreciation from them inspired us to open an online shop. Here we sell beautiful and meaningful gift and home décor items. We take custom orders as well!

You can visit Navanka Creations on Etsy.

We also have a blog, Craft Ideas for All, where we share craft ideas, tutorials and tips. Recently, we have started craft classes for school going kids. We believe that creative interpretation helps kids to learn to express themselves better. The excitement and sparkle in their eyes, the sense of achievement in them after creating something beautiful and meaningful is our real reward.
